"It's going to change out neighborhood considerably. If they're going to put businesses right behind us, we're concerned that there won't be enough buffer," Cary resident Gloria Perkins said.
The town of Cary is hoping to ease those fears. They are asking for community input in the development of the Walnut Street corridor. Town leaders say they want to avoid over-development. They want to ensure the current quality of life for the 12 surrounding neighborhoods.
"You want to tightly control the type of development that will go on there," town councilman Harold Weinbrecht said.
Town leaders are proposing development with limited hours such as offices, florists, boutiques and churches.
"Of course, you can't satisfy everyone. We're hoping to come up with a solution that's acceptable and won't hurt too many people," Weinbrecht said.
Two more community input meetings are planned for next week.
