RALEIGH, N.C. — Juanita Harris of Raleigh has lost her battle with cancer.
Harris and her husband George lost their home to fire, then saw a contractor take off with about $10,000 of their money.
A large number of other contractors stepped in and donated time and materials to build a new house for the family.
"I am so glad that everybody was part of this project. I think everybody got attached to her because she was such a likable lady," contractor Mike Miller said.
Mrs. Harris insisted on leaving the hospital Thursday to return to her new home, where she died peacefully.
