LEE COUNTY, N.C. — Over the weekend, federal investigators continued their investigation into a small plane crash near the Lee and Harnett County border.
National Transportation Safety Board investigators began collecting parts of the plane on Sunday after wrapping up their initial investigation on Saturday.
The plane slammed into and knocked down a television transmission tower belonging to Capitol Broadcasting, WRAL's parent company, Thursday afternoon.
The pilot, David Dollar, 27, of Durham, died.
Witnesses said the Piper single-engine plane appeared to hit a guy wire and took the whole tower down with it.
Dollar had been hired as an air-mail carrier by Wachovia Bank to transport checks and other documents to a processing facility.
