Cumberland County Man Continues To Proclaim Innocence In Woman's Murder

Posted Updated

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. — John Lennon Wood was arrested over the weekend for the murder of Angela Mosden. However, Wood and his father claim authorities have the wrong man.

Wood told reporters that he was not the person who killed Angela Mosden. Mosden was stabbed in her home Thursday while her husband was deployed in Afghanistan.

"I'm not a violent person. I've never been a violent person. I love everybody. This is ridiculous," he said.

Wood lives about 1 mile away from the Mosden home on Blackbird Road. Wood, a high school dropout, has been in trouble with the law before. He was charged with several burglaries and larcenies.

Cumberland County Sheriff Earl Butler said Wood is the right man and while the Sheriff's Office does not have a motive in the Mosden killing, they claim they have a pattern.

"He is on probation for breaking into homes late at night, and a man found him in the kitchen," he said.

David Wood, John's father, said his son dated the Mosden's oldest daughter two years ago, but has had no recent ties to the family. David Wood questions the physical evidence investigators have against his son.

David Wood said a jacket with blood on it belonged to another family member who cleans kidney dialysis machines. He said other family members can also place John in their home when the murder occurred.

"If we can depend on the true evidence, then I don't have to worry. What bothers me is they brushed it off and said, 'We don't want to hear it. We already know,'" David Wood said.

Investigators expect lab results on the physical evidence to come back Tuesday.
