WAKE COUNTY, N.C. — Hundreds of students have been dropped from Wake County's school reassignment plan.

After listening to ideas and comments from parents at a public hearing last month, the board decided to remove 670 students from the plan. The moves dropped from the plan include:

  • Cary High to Athens Drive High
  • East Wake High to Garner High
  • Some from Wakefield High to Wake Forest-Rolesville High
  • Some from Broughton High to Leesville Road High
  • Leesville High to Sanderson High
  • Apex Middle to Dillard Drive Middle
  • Some from Daniels Middle to Leesville Road Middle
  • Davis Drive Middle to East Cary Middle
  • East Millbrook Middle to Carroll Middle
  • Holly Springs Elementary to Lincoln Heights Elementary
  • Willow Springs Elementary to Ballentine Elementary
  • Stough Elementary to Leesville Road
  • Board members also decided to move 260 students to different schools, which requires another public hearing. Those moves include:

  • Garner High students going to Middle Creek High instead of Athens Drive High
  • Some Martin Middle students going to Leesville Road Middle instead of Daniels
  • Apex Elementary students going to Swift Creek Elementary instead of Dillard Drive
  • Lead Mine Elementary students going to Brassfield Elementary instead of Pleasant Union
  • That hearing will take place during the board's next meeting on March 19. It starts at 6:30 p.m. at the school administration building.

A final vote is expected following the hearing.
