WAKE COUNTY, N.C. — Wake County deputies believe they know the identity of a man who threatened one of their own Wednesday night, they just have not found him yet.
The incident happened when a deputy made a routine traffic stop in the northeastern part of the county on Mitchell Mill Road near Rolesville Road.
As the deputy approached the vehicle, the driver pulled out a gun. The deputy fired four shots at the man. No one was injured in the incident.
Officials said that the driver fled the scene and ended up leaving the car in a nearby field where he took off on foot. A search of the area turned up nothing Wednesday night.
Thursday morning, a K-9 unit recovered a weapon, a cell phone and an undisclosed amount of crack cocaine.
