Computer Networks Seen As Next Target For Terrorists

Security experts were in Chapel Hill Wednesday night to discuss strategy in the war on terrorism.

Speakers, including National Security specialist Frank Hoffman, warn that the worst is yet to come. Computer networks are considered the next target for terrorists.

"It won't be what some people call an electronic waterloo. [It] won't be that kind of a massive battle, and it won't be that kind of imperial-ending kind of thing," he said. "[It] could be a Pearl Harbor or could be something that really surprises us."

Hoffman said transportation networks, airports, navigation systems, ships, dams and nuclear reactors are all tied to computer networks.
