WAKE COUNTY, N.C. — The Shearon Harris Nuclear power plant in southwestern Wake County has a new set of security regulations it must follow.
A federal order issued Wednesday requires every nuclear power plant in the country to upgrade its security measures.
"We're well ahead in terms of implementing the components of it, such as access for personnel, training, [and] security outpost checkpoint facilities," said Jeanne Bonds of CP&L.
Other security upgrades in the federal order include increased patrols, installation of additional physical barriers and enhanced security coordination with local law enforcement and the military.
Officials at the Harris plant will not specify which measures it still has to take.
All of the new requirements must be in place by the end of August.
