Fayetteville Development Plan Focuses On Bringing People Downtown

Members of the American Institute of Architects spent the last week gathering public input and coming up with a plan for the city's future.

The focus is to bring more people downtown.

The Fayetteville Renaissance Plan suggests better gateways to the city, a new arts complex and more downtown housing.

The plan also encourages development along the Cape Fear River.

"I think one of the real points of all of this is that we can't look to the city or the county governments to sponsor and do this," said Ben Brown, assistant city manager. "This is something the community has to do and it has to come primarily from the private sector."

The plan will be on display at the Arts Center on Hay Street for the next three weeks.
