CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. — The Cumberland County Sheriff's department is now in the middle of a serious lawsuit.
Deborah Crain, Dawn Hamerla and Deborah Koenig, who claimed they were victims of sexual harassment last year, are now suing the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office and Sheriff Earl Butler.
In January, Butler announced his office was cleared of all allegations by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, but the women's attorney claims the EEOC failed to do a thorough investigation.
"None of my clients desire the filing of this lawsuit, but Sheriff Butler and the county left us no option," attorney Travis Payne said.
Both Sheriff Butler and a representative from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission were unavailable for comment.
