RALEIGH, N.C. — Patricia Ann Burrus, 67, appeared in court Monday on murder charges.
On Sunday, her son, 46-year-old Gilbert Burrus of Apex, and his wife, Collette, visited his mother in the Trotter's Ridge neighborhood. At 1:30 p.m., Collette Burrus called 911 from a neighbor's phone.
Collette Burrus said her husband was trying to hold his mother down, despite severe stab wounds. Gilbert Burrus later died at a hospital.
Some residents of Trotter's Ridge said Patricia Burrus, a widow, had a reputation for keeping to herself.
"It was just that she didn't want to be a part of her neighbors," one neighbor said.
On Jan. 16, Burrus was charged with stabbing a different visitor at her home, wounding him. On March 5, she was scheduled to stand trial for assault with a deadly weapon.
Burrus is being held without bond. She will have a court-appointed attorney represent her at a hearing scheduled for March 18.
