Wayne Co. School System Adopts State Policy Regarding Sports Eligibilty

Posted Updated

WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. — The dream basketball season is back on for a Wayne County high school basketball team.

Tuesday morning, the school board decided to drop its policy that required students to be enrolled for a full year before competing in school sports.

Spring Creek was forced to forfeit 16 basketball games last week when it was discovered that one of its players had started playing before he was eligible.

The school board decided to adopt the more lenient state policy instead, which requires a student to be enrolled for two semesters.

Under those guidelines, the school only had to surrender four games.
