Fayetteville Group Home Investigated After Child Abuse Allegations

e-mail print friendly

Fayetteville police are looking into accusations that a 10-year-old boy was beaten at a group home.

Linda Montank claims her grandson, Charles, was battered by a staff worker Thursday at the Spruce Wood Group Home. Pictures Montank took show her grandson with bruises and rug burns.

Charles has attention deficit disorder and has been in the group home since early January.

"As soon as we received information of a complaint that's been made against one of our staff members, we immediately removed the individual from the facility," said Debbie Jenkins of Child and Family Services.

Sgt. Alex Thompson of the Fayetteville Police Department said case investigators are awaiting the results of additional interviews. Police will then determine if there will be any charges filed.

Jenkins admitted this is the second time allegations of physical abuse have surfaced against Spruce Wood. The first time was last February. Last year's allegations were dropped because of insufficient evidence.
