DURHAM, N.C. — A former presidential candidate is making the rounds Thursday.

The Reverend Al Sharpton held a press conference in Durham to announce the opening of a new chapter of his National Action Network in the Raleigh-Durham area. It is the 22nd chapter of the group to connect grass roots groups and activists.

"It is clear to us that there is a need to continue to connect around issues of criminal justice, around issues of economic families, around issues of civil liberties," he said.

Sharpton will be visiting North Carolina Central Thursday night and is holding a fund-raiser for the network.
