— A mother and her two teenage children pleaded guilty Friday in the death of the children's father, who was found decapitated in a freezer in their Raleigh home last year.

Wendy Edmond Green, 42, and the couple's son, David Green III, 15, both pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the death of David Ruben Green Jr., 52. The couple's daughter, Alexis Green, 17, pleaded guilty to helping hide her father's murder.

David Green III was prosecuted as an adult, even though he was 13 at the time of the murder.

A judge sentenced Wendy Green to 30 to 46 years in prison. The children, who cooperated with prosecutors, got less jail time. David Green III was sentenced to a maximum 26 years, and Alexis Green got six to eight years.

Prosecutors said they sought the plea deals after David Green Jr.'s family told them they didn't want to go through a trial and possible appeals process.

Investigators say the murder happened in January 2009 after David Green Jr. threatened to kill Wendy Green, his longtime girlfriend, during an argument involving Alexis, who was 15 at the time.

"He said, if Alexis was pregnant, he was going to kill her and bury her in the yard," Wake County Assistant District Attorney Jason Waller told the judge, adding that Alexis Green was seven months pregnant at the time.

Wendy Green then convinced her son, David Green III, to kill his father as he slept, Waller said.

The 13-year-old walked into his father's room several times with various weapons but told his mother he couldn't kill him, Waller said. He said Wendy ordered her son to "do it," and the teen hit his father on the head with a hammer twice.

David Green Jr. didn't die immediately.

"He walked around the house, (was) crawling around the house, asking for help," Waller said, noting that Wendy Green refused to help him.

He died several hours later, Waller said. Prosecutors say the family then used a dog leash to drag his body to the basement and put him in a freezer in their house on Ray Road.

David Green III went back to the freezer later, on his own, and used an ax, knife and motorized hedge trimmer to decapitate his father and try, unsuccessfully, to cut off his father's legs, Waller said.

Other family members reported David Green Jr. missing, and an investigator found his body almost two years later, on Oct. 6.

"He was wrapped in a bed sheet, and (the investigator) noticed that the head was missing where it should have been," Waller said.

Wendy Green claims David Green Jr. abused her.

"There was mental, physical and emotional abuse to Wendy and the children over a long period of time," defense attorney Jim Freeman said.

Prosecutors say, even though Wendy Green didn't hit her boyfriend with the hammer, she was the driving force behind his murder.

Ronnie Ansley, a defense attorney for the children said, "The mother was the puppet-master. She was telling them what to do, and they were doing it."

"She used two teenage children to do what she couldn't do," Waller said.

Every woman who kills her husband claims he was abusive. Every woman getting a divorce who wants to keep the house tells the police he's abusive and they make him leave. Every woman seeking alimony claims her husband was abusive. Every woman seeking child custody claims their father is abusive. Give me a break already.

"A Wake County District Attorney said the guy threatened to kill his daughter if he found out she was pregnant, not one of the three or their defense attorney - A Wake County District Attorney.
That means it happened because a Wake County District Attorney would not have cause to say anything FOR the defendants unless it was true.
The deceased threatened his daughter's life.
    The End!" - RB

How ridiculous. The District Attorney wasn't there when this was said. The only people who can claim he said any of this are the criminals themselves. The District Attorney is just repeating their claim.

"a logical thought that may have gone through their minds is, "He's going to kill her.""

Except if you read the story or listened to the court proceedings, you learned that they woke the boy up to kill his father. He was not threatened. The two who could've felt threatened didn't call police......it would've stopped there.

In times of need....no one is going to help anyone....until a crime is committed....does everyone understand how this works? People can reach and ask for help...but only WHEN something takes place....when it is too little, too late....will the law enforcement try to do anything....

twc - "The only people claiming abuse are the heinous killers!!!"

    Wrong!

    Read the story again.

The threat verification came from a Wake County District Attorney.

slanted - "...how weak of a women are you that you use your children to do your dirty work. And no offense but if the lady had been of another race their would be no comments of empathy towards her, this women convinced her kids to kill their own father..."

I have no empathy towards the mother whatsoever.

I have some empathy towards the children, however. I believe they were caught between a rock and a hard place with the father threatening the life of the daughter, and I believe they saw a path out - conveniently paved by their mother to rid them of the threat.

In my opinion, the mother was a coward.

She should have helped her children get to safety, not helped them to kill their father who the mother may have been trying to rid herself of anyway.

Such a very sad situation here....there are some very controlling and abusive women in this country....although most of the law enforcement and NC Judicial System go after more men than women....I think that this woman should be in prison for life...without any parole...the children need a lot of help....as they were probably threaten to do what they did....actually NO ONE will ever know the truth about this gross murder...I hope that this woman thinks about what she did each and every day for the rest of her life....

HELLO!?!?!?!? The only people claiming abuse are the heinous killers!!!!!

This guy was probably laying down rules in order to raise his family. This woman is NOT a family woman OBVIOUSLY!

Why do people always believe the woman? Why do they believe her even at this point when it is so OBVIOUS what this woman is capable of. She didn't even love her children enough to not VICTIMIZE them. SHE did it; NOT HIM!!!!

Ok I already know some people are not going to like this; but in order to kill your husband and father in cold blood something seriously had to be wrong in that house prior to that date, but why did'nt she seek help, and how weak of a women are you that you use your children to do your dirty work. And no offense but if the lady had been of another race their would be no comments of empathy towards her, this women convinced her kids to kill their own father because she in my opinion is a sick individual, and deserves five life sentences if possible now her son will lose 26 years of his life and daughter 6-8 years if they survive prison at all, with them being so young, So sad!
