CLARKTON, N.C. — Dogs are believed to have mauled a 9-day-old infant to death in a Clarkton home on Tuesday, Bladen County District Attorney Jon David said Wednesday.

Five dogs were removed from the home at 10140 N. College St., but David didn't say what happened to them. David said some or all of the dogs were involved in the death.

According to a police report, the child's name is Addyson Paige Camerino.

Neighbors said a young couple lived in the home with the child's uncles. They said the family's dogs included a rottweiler and a pit bull.

"This is an emotionally charged incident for everyone involved, yet we are committed to making our determination on the basis of what justice requires," David said in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and those in the community who are affected by these events."

The State Bureau of Investigation, the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office, Bladen County Animal Control and David's office are working together on the investigation.
