Cary Police Suspect Woman Of Swindling Apartment Residents

Posted Updated

CARY, N.C. — Cary police are looking for a woman that they suspect of preying on caring people.

Police said that their suspect, 28-year-old Paula Locklear, knocks on doors asking for help, then steals whatever she can. They said that she has been targeting the Archstone Cornerstone Apartments, located off High House Road.

"I get a knock on the door, I go in and look and I see a lady and she is wet, she has a black eye and the whole side of her face is bruised up," said Cary resident Shannon Williamson.

Williamson let the woman into her home. The stranger claimed to have lost her keys and asked to use the phone.

"I said 'What happened to your eye?' and she started tearing up," said Williamson.

Once inside the apartments, police said Locklear distracts the residents and takes whatever valuables are within reach, including purses, wallets, driver's licenses and credit cards.

Police believe Locklear is resposible for four thefts of wallets and purses this week. Investigators think she has also struck in Apex and Durham.

Police describe Locklear as a white female with dark brown hair. She stands 5'6" tall and weighs between 110 and 115 pounds.
