Injured Cary Officer Thanks Those Helping His Recovery

CARY, N.C. — A Cary police officer who was shot in the face during a traffic stop two months ago offered his thanks on Tuesday.

Officer George Almond was shot in the face during a traffic stop along U.S. 1 on Oct. 10.Almond lost sight in his left eye and suffered other injuries as a result of the shooting.

In his first public statement, Almond thanked his family, police, the community and God for his recovery.

"I'm just thankful that, number one, that I'm alive and capable of having a conversation and other physical things. I'm just thankful with that," Almond said.

Almond said that he hopes to return to work at the Cary Police Department when he is fully recovered.

Emory Bivins, 28, is accused of shooting Almond. He faces one count of felonious assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflicting serious injury.
