Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — More money is heading to the

Cumberland County School System

.

On Tuesday, Congressman Robin Hayes announced that Congress approved an additional $2.7 million in impact aid for Cumberland County schools.

The money supplements tax dollars that cannot be collected on federal property, like Fort Bragg and Pope Air Force Base.

"Part of our constitution says [support] national defense. Part of our national defense says support your local communities who surround military installations and provide badly needed services, especially education," Hayes said.

According to the school system, 16,000 military children attend the county's public schools.
