FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — An Armed Forces family center opened Friday at Cross Creek Mall in Fayetteville.

Military families can go to the center to see videotaped messages from their loved ones overseas. They can also send postcards, care of a WRAL message center.

You can also send care packages to servicemen overseas. The family center is collecting items now.

"I stay in touch with our troops on a daily basis that are deployed, and they are sacrificing a lot, but they're doing it for our country, specifically the great people of Fayetteville, North Carolina," said Lt. Col. Elegear Primus of Pope Air Force Base.

The family center is prepared to stay open 18 months, but the hope is the troops will come home sooner.
