Raleigh Mayor-Elect Sets Priorities For Term

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — Raleigh mayor-elect Charles Meeker is laying out a list of priorities for his term in office.

Earlier this week, Meeker held his first news conference since being elected in November.

Meeker listed 34 issues he will focus on during the next two years. He says that three priorities are at the top of his to-do list.

"Number one is restriction of clear-cutting of trees in Raleigh; second is to enhance citizen participation; third is to have a very vigorous abandoned housing program in southeast Raleigh," he said.

Meeker says he will also work to build a consensus among city council members. He and the new council will be sworn into office next Monday.
