Construction Begins On Elm City Water Pipeline

Posted Updated

ELM CITY — People in Elm City hope their water woes will be over soon now that an emergency pipeline is being built.

On Monday, construction began on a two-and-a-half mile pipe that will connect Elm City to Wilson's water supply.

The Wilson County town's water shortage was so bad last year that two schools had to shut down twice, sending students home.

"It's as important here as it is in your life at home," said Bob Kendall of Wilson County Schools. "It's a disruptive occurence when you don't have any water at home, and it's a disruptive occurence here as well. It will be a nice circumstance not to have to face that again in the future."

The $1.1 million pipeline is expected to be in place in about six months.
