DURHAM — Duke researchers say a chemical found in the body can help better
predict a person's risk
of heart disease.
Troponin is a protein released into the bloodstream as heart muscle cells die.
Researchers believe that measuring the amount of Troponin can detect small amounts of heart muscle damage which may be missed by an EKG.
Those patients could then be treated with medications, reducing the risk of future heart attacks.
