N.C. Receives $41.5 Million Settlement From Bridgestone/Firestone

RALEIGH — Details were released Thursday about North Carolina's share of a major tire lawsuit settlement involving Firestone.

North Carolina will get $41.5 million

from the settlement for consumer protection and education about tire care.

"People on our highways will be safer because of this settlement," said state attorney general Roy Cooper. "Bridgestone/Firestone has done the right thing by resolving this matter."

Bridgestone/Firestone will also reimburse the state for attorneys' fees. As part of the settlement, the tire maker did not have to admit fault for faulty tires.
