GARNER — Officials in Garner broke ground on White Oak Crossing, a 500,000 square foot regional shopping center located near Interstate 40 and US 70.
Thirty stores are expected to open shop there, including Best Buy, Kohl's and BJ's Wholesale Club.
The shopping center, which is scheduled to open in the fall of 2003,will provide more than 1,200 jobs to the area.
"We've been trying to sell this area to developers and to retail and industry for the last 10 years. I've been working on this project right here for about four years hoping that it would take place. And it's good just to see it happen," said Mayor Donald Rohrbaugh.
White Oak Crossing is expected to draw shoppers from Garner, Smithfield, Fayetteville and Sampson County.
