Parents planning for Halloween are nudging their kids toward more traditional costumes. This year, scary is out.
Heroes are also expected to be big on Christmas lists. GI Joe is already a hot seller; fire and rescue figures are also in high demand.
Firefighters say being held in such high esteem by youngsters is appreciated.
"It does make you feel a lot better knowing the country is behind you," says James Farfour, an engineer with the Goldsboro Fire Department."It is nice to know that you're appreciated. Before, we got a thank you once in a while, but now when the general public sees you, you really feel like they have an awareness of what you're doing."
It is an awareness that children and parents say they are happy to show.
