— A Raleigh woman who hit and killed a man with her car while he was walking along a roadway Thursday afternoon was distracted by her car radio, police said Friday.

Princess Nicole Singletary, 26, of 2356 Derby Drive, is charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle after the wreck Thursday that killed Santos Cruz-Domingue, 61, of Raleigh.

Investigators said Cruz-Domingue was walking on the sidewalk in the 2100 block of Rock Quarry Road when Singletary lost control of her, side-swiped a utility pole before hitting him. He died at WakeMed.

Singletary is also charged with failure to maintain a lane of travel.

great reminder to drive defensively. It doesn't matter how upset people get about this woman's criminally neglectful behavior, these horrible drivers are out there, on the roads, everyday.

Oopsie! Oh bother, I killed some guy. I guess this is going to make me late. I hope they don't impound my iphone.

Quote from Objective Scientist: "Too many of us embrace the label or title of "MULTI-TASKER" and wear that label/title as if it were some sort of "Badge of Honor"."

CNBC had a really interesting special on a few months ago about the "Blackberry Culture" that we have created.

One of the more interesting segments included multitasking. They had 2 basketball teams dressed in red and blue uniforms moving through, between and around each other. The viewer was tasked to count how many times the red team passed the ball.

Here's the catch: about halfway through the game, a witch came wandering through the game. Most people miss that AND the number of times the blue team passes the ball, because they're concentrating on the red team.

Multitasking is a MYTH created by mid-level managers and HR departments. DON'T ATTEMPT IT, ESPECIALLY ON THE ROADS!!!

This happens a lot in SE Raleigh where loud stereo takes precedence over everything else.

For those hiding behind "but it was an accident":

I've never "accidentally" run over a child in my driveway.

I've never "accidentally" wrecked a car while driving at 100 mph and/or after consuming too much alcohol.

I've never "accidentally" been involved in a wreck while driving the wrong way on an interstate highway.

I've never "accidentally" run down a pedestrian who was walking on a neighborhood sidewalk.

Yes, I've been involved in some fender-benders where the phrase "accident" is appropriate to either driver involved. This one just does not fit that category.

There are plenty of times when my cell phone notifies me of call/text and I just ignore it until I can pull over (preferably) or reach a much less congested location.

And for the folks here who are crying "freedom of speech!" rest assured that WRAL can decline any comments (including this one) that are inconsistent with their own rules and guidelines.

The way some of you are commenting on this board makes me thinks you don't feel she should have been charge. You should reread the story or have someone to explain it to you as to why she was charge. Remember too, a life was taken because of her actions.

SPEAK NICE AND RESPECT OTHERS AND JUST MAYBE YOUR COMMENTS WILL FLOW THROUGH. BE UGLY AND DISRESPECTFUL AND THE COMMENTS WILL NOT BE SEEN. WRAL HAS THEIR RIGHT OR THEY CAN JUST END THE COMMENTS FOR GOOD. WANT THAT?
