"We have traffic congestion and we have some of the worst air in the county," said Meeker. "We have haphazard development and a large part of the problem is the clear cutting of trees."
"I have worked to do a number of things that my opponent has challenged me on," Coble replied. "I led the committee in 1997 that wrote the laws that restricted tree cutting in the town and created a tree save program."
Coble is a major supporter I-540, and while Meeker said he supports finishing the connector, Coble accused his challenger of opposing other major thoroughfares.
"He was one of the chief opponents to the Edwards Mill connector that was designed to take people off of Edwards Mill and move them to I-40," Coble said.
Meeker responded, "Mr. Coble is incorrect. It was the Duraleigh connector I was opposed to."
A check of local news archives shows Meeker did support the majority of the votes on the Edwards Mill project.
