The Wilson Arts Council is hanging original paintings in store windows. The idea is to spruce up vacant buildings and to generate publicity for the artists.

Some of the paintings were done by professionals, while others were created by local students.

The streets downtown are also looking better. The city is burying power lines along east Nash Street and replacing water pipes, some of which are more than 100 years old.

Crews are also replacing concrete sidwalks with an alternating brick pattern as part of the city's

Street Scape Project

. So far, four blocks have been completed.
