Authorities search for missing Spring Lake teen

Posted August 17, 2011

— Cumberland County authorities were searching Wednesday for a Spring Lake teen who last seen by family members Sunday night.

The family of Vincent Carlisle Jr., 17, of Carmichael Lane, said the teen hasn't responded to any phone calls or text messages and hasn't logged on to his Facebook page for several days. They said it's uncharacteristic of Carlisle and they are concerned.

They declined to be interviewed, but did say they fear that Carlisle is dead.

So does Brian Richey, who said Carlisle is his best friend.

"(I'm) depressed, sad, mad, just wondering what happened (and) how it happened," Richey said.

Family friend Niya Washington said she was Carlisle's middle school teacher and that he was a "good kid."

"None of this makes sense," she said. "I don't understand why he's not here."

Deputies focused their search Wednesday on an area near N.C. Highway 210, along the Harnett County line, but would not elaborate on why.

Carlisle was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and blue basketball shorts. He is a rising senior at Overhills High School in Spring Lake.

Anyone with information about Carlisle’s whereabouts should contact the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office at 910-323-1500 or call the anonymous tips line at 910-484-8477.

Just come back from Fayetteville and I believe they have located the young man's body. There were police everywhere and the were in the process of putting up the crime scene tape. We also passed by an Anderson Creek rescue squad headed in that direction. My thoughts and prayers go out to this young man's family.

Please God let them find this missing boy alive and well. It really does seem strange to give up so soon on your family. "at least he's in a better place" and what the heck kind of comment is this to make when you are suppose to be his bestfriend it sounds like this guy already knows what has happened to him. I think the police need to be investigating this boy a little more. And maybe he has been the one to convince the family that he is no longer alive. Sounds strange to me.

Praying that he is found safe.

I pray this young man is found safe but this doesn't sound good. When I think about my son; if he's gone for several hours I worry and I call or text him and he returns my call promptly. But if he doesn't respond to my calls for several days, as a parent I would know something foul has happened to him. It was uncharacteristic for this teen to not respond to his family and in their heart they know something bad has happened. Pray for his family because I can only imagine the horror they feeling right now.

"This is bad! What is, or does this mean? "He is a rising senior" To me it says this person is an A plus maybe one B type student." -landshark

"A rising senior" means he is going to the 12th grade, fyi.
