Nash-Rocky Mount Teacher Named To All-USA Team

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A trophy and a $2,500 check are on the way to Janie MacIntyre. The teacher in the Nash-Rocky Mount system has been named to USA Today's annual All-USA Teacher Team.

Many students find math difficult, but Janie MacIntyre's students at Edwards Junior High School are not worried.

"She explains it and helps me get through it. I just like her," said student Onaji Wiggins.

USA Today has also taken a liking to MacIntyre. She was placed on the newspaper's First Team.

"Personally, it's an incredible honor. A lot of the things we do go unnoticed and unsung and that's fine," she said. "We get our benefits from helping our children to succeed."

MacIntyre has studied brain research and uses

to help students organize information to learn better, but that is what students say they like best about her.

"She's nice and she's intellegent and she teaches well," said one student.

In all, 11 North Carolina teachers were honored in the program on the First, Second, Third and Honorable Mention teams.
