Posted October 9, 2001
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK — Hundreds of RTP workers are losing their jobs as Solectron -- a California electronics company -- is closing its plant in Research Triangle Park.
The closing is part of a company-wide restructuring. All 306 full-time employees will be laid off. Each worker will receive at least 60 days pay and benefits and are eligible for severance.
The layoffs will start in late November and come in phases. The facility will be shut down by the end of the year.
The RTP plant produces printed circuit boards for networking and telecommunications industries.
