RALEIGH — Americans have proven how giving they can be in tough times. The Food Bank of North Carolina hopes that will not stop as the holidays approach.
The food bank announced its goal of collecting 200,000 pounds of food for this year's
Winn-Dixie Day at the State Fair
. Last year 183,000 pounds of food were collected.
The food bank director is confident fairgoers will continue to give despite the recent events.
"Our hearts and minds and souls go out to the people in New York. We know North Carolinians are very generous and we hope that'll continue with food as well," says Jane Cox, food bank executive director.
On Oct. 18, fairgoers can exchange four cans of Thrify-Maid canned foods available at Winn-Dixie stores for free adult or child admission to the State Fair.
