Person found dead in burning camper in Wendell

Human remains were found inside a burning camper parked outside a Wendell home early Monday morning.

Crews responded to a home on Industrial Drive around 3:15 a.m., where a camper was fully engulfed in flames, police said.

Firefighters discovered human remains inside the camper. No additional information was released.

The WRAL Breaking News Tracker saw a medical examiner at the scene along with a large fire response. A white sheet appeared to be covering a body.

Broadcastify radio traffic indicated someone died in the fire:

"I was just confirming, you said one fatality? That’s correct.”

An investigation is ongoing.
