Rep. Harrell, under investigation, resigns
RALEIGH, N.C. — The campaign of a former Wake County lawmaker is facing a fine.

The State Board of Elections has fined Ty Harrell's campaign $550 for failing to file its final two quarterly reports.

Harrell, a Democrat, resigned last year shortly after fellow legislators opened an investigation into his 2008 campaign spending. He said at the time that personal difficulties and questions about his campaign would hinder his ability to represent his constituents.

He denied using campaign money for personal use.
