CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Vice President Joe Biden visited Chapel Hill Thursday to raise money for the Democratic party. About 200 people attended, and tickets were $500 each.

He flew in to Raleigh-Durham International Airport and traveled to a reception at The Carolina Inn. The event featured heavy security and heavy power players – a sight North Carolina could see more of if the 2012 Democratic National Convention comes to Charlotte.

The city is said to be on a short list of possible sites that also includes Minneapolis, Cleveland and St. Louis.

"The vice president, the president, the administration knows this is an important state," said North Carolina Democratic Party Chairman David Young. "Everybody is focused around the country on North Carolina."

To welcome Biden, the state's Republicans planned a news conference to question the Obama administration's economic policies.
