Former Arizona congressman predicts win for McCain
J.D. Hayworth, a former Arizona congressman and North Carolina State University football player, thinks McCain’s experience will trump Barack Obama’s charisma.
Posted — UpdatedPHOENIX — A former Arizona congressman and North Carolina State University football player predicts a win for Republican presidential nominee John McCain.
“I think John McCain’s experience will trump Barack Obama’s charisma,” J.D. Hayworth said. In 2000 Hayworth co-chaired McCain’s campaign.
With McCain on the road campaigning, some are not sure his home state of Arizona will be a red state on Tuesday.
“The joke around here is that he’s more like the senator from New Hampshire than he is the senator from Arizona. He’s been running for president for so long that he hasn’t been representing Arizonians,” Emily DeRose, of the Arizona State Democratic Party, said.
Though Obama has been cruising comfortably ahead in national and many battleground state polls, Hayworth believes McCain will be “the comeback candidate.”
“Despite all the talk from the alphabet networks about Obama’s second term and who he’s going to put in the cabinet, if this were sewed up, Obama would be home in Chicago,” Hayworth said.
