— The Republican vice presidential candidate will return to North Carolina Thursday.

Sarah Palin will speak at a rally at Elon University's Latham Park. Gates open at noon.

Palin will be joined on stage by country music legend Hank Williams Jr., who will perform his new song in support of the Republican presidential ticket, "The McCain-Palin Tradition."

Palin was in Greenville last week as the campaign started to ramp up appearances in the state.

The party's presidential candidate, John McCain, was in Wilmington on Monday.

The Republicans have increased their presence in the state to defend it from the rise of Democratic rival Barack Obama. Obama has heavily invested in turning out the state's large blocs of black and young voters.

Thursday's rally is open to the public, but tickets, available from local campaign offices, are required. A campaign spokesman in Raleigh said that lines which formed when tickets first became available had diminished by 2 p.m., but tickets remained available.

Ticket-holders will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis. Parking is available at Firehouse Field on Williamson Avenue.

Participants can get tickets – there is a limit of two per person – from the following campaign offices:

  • 4600 Durham Chapel Hill Blvd., Durham, 919-539-5928
  • 147 S. Center St., Goldsboro, 573-647-9016
  • 3800 Tinsley Road, Suite 103, High Point, 336-885-0467
  • 103B Commerce St., Greenville, 252-321-1996
  • 1506 Hillsborough St., Raleigh, 919-828-6423
  • 1826 Sunset Ave., Rocky Mount, 919-862-6183
  • 2110 Cloverdale Ave, Suite D, Winston Salem, 336-724-6000

Commentor5 - Geez - that is about the least intelligent thing I have seen after reading all this drivel. Obama is a citizen of the US. Period . End of story. Read something other than right-wing rags and scare tactic urban legend email.
"Barack Obama is, in fact, a natural-born citizen of the United States, for the simple reason that he was born on American soil (in Hawaii, two years after it acquired statehood). The age and citizenship status of Obama's parents have no bearing whatsoever on Obama's citizenship." I know you have been reading the "true!" emails that say his birth certificate is a fake and this is all a big liberal conspiracy. I am sorry - but that is all fabrication. Intelligent discourse on the issues is great – spreading disparaging rumors are just plain wrong and it reeks of desperation.

Remember 2 years ago when Hank Williams Jr. attacked and choked a cocktail waitress because she didn't recognize him? Really sweet guy. he's a terrorist to wait staffers!

McCain was born in Panama. He's not a real US citizen either.

Who was the father of Hank Williams, Jr...was it Willie Daniels?

  • Commentor5 Oct 14, 2008

Barack Hussein Obama was not born a US citizen. Has anybody brought this up? Yes little liberals, YOUR candidate is not who you think he is. You should go do a little investigating before you claim that YOUR candidate is legitimate....yes.....just do a little research and you'll see O is not really Obama.

NCCarguy says "I'll also be willing to bet that you supported Clinton.....even while he was lying under oath...so give it a rest."

I voted Perot. However I think Clinton did an amazing job as president of the United States, he deserved a mistress as most our presidents have.

What a redneckfest this is going to be! Yeehah!
By the way the Dixie Chicks' latest album sold a gazillion copies and won a grammy. They're doing just fine without the Old McDonald crowd, thank you.

I see she's pulling out the big guns now. Old, has been musicians that nobody cares about. I'm sure Obama is doing the same though. Didn't he have some "has been" play at a rally last week? Oh yeah...Bruce Springsteen.

Bill Brasky.....speak for yourself....I for one am STILL a supporter of the president, and frankly, it's insulting to hear those of you that know very little about what his role is keep bashing him....I'll also be willing to bet that you supported Clinton.....even while he was lying under oath...so give it a rest.
