Greenville, N.C. — The Pitt County Republican Party and a local voter filed suit Thursday over out-of-state influence in North Carolina elections.
The suit alleges the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee and the DLCC North Carolina PAC illegally funnel corporate money into the state to finance campaigns against Republican candidates.
The DLCC, a so-called 527 group, accepts and spends corporate contributions, which are unlawful for North Carolina political-action committees.
The lawsuit alleges improper reporting and failure to report by the organizations and accused them of “giving in the name of another,” which is prohibited by state law.
The DLCC has been criticized before, but the group maintains the money is raised and spent according to law.
A request for a preliminary injunction will be heard in Pitt County Superior Court on Oct. 10.
