Raleigh, N.C. — The top Democrats running for governor are neck and neck in the race to raise money for the campaign.
According to the latest campaign finance reports, State Treasurer Richard Moore and Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue have each raised more than $6 million to date.
Moore leads the fundraising race by about $29,000. Perdue raised more than $2 million in the latest reporting period, however, compared with less than $1.8 million for Moore.
Each candidate still has more than $4.5 million available.
Among the four Republican gubernatorial candidates, state Sen. Fred Smith leads in fundraising, with more than $1 million.
