Former Black Ally Sentenced to 4 Years in Prison
RALEIGH, N.C. — Former state lawmaker Michael Decker on Tuesday reported to a federal prison in Bennettsville, S.C.

Decker pleaded guilty in August 2006 to taking money from former House Speaker Jim Black in 2003 to switch political parties. The move helped Black retain a share of power in the evenly divided House.

A judge sentenced Decker to four years in prison, but prosecutors asked to have his sentence cut in half, saying he helped strengthen their corruption case against Black.

Black is serving a 63-month sentence at a federal prison camp in Pennsylvania.
