Proposed Raleigh Budget Includes Fee Increases

RALEIGH, N.C. — City Manager Russell Allen on Tuesday proposed a $556.4 million budget for the coming fiscal year, including some fee increases for local residents.
The budget represents an 8.3 percent increase from the current operating and capital budgets, officials said. The additional money would be used to hire more city staff and to buy new equipment.
One suggestion to boost revenue is a $2 increase in monthly solid waste fees, while another is a 9 percent increase in water and sewer rates.
The budget also suggests hiring 20 new employees at the Raleigh Police Department and expanding a program to deal with students when they track out of year-round schools.
Residents can voice their opinions on the budget at a public hearing in early June.
