Local sales tax on Orange ballot
Orange County voters will decide in November whether to add a quarter-cent to the local sales tax rate for education and economic development, officials said Friday.

The added tax, which wouldn't apply to groceries, gasoline and prescription medicines, would generate about $2.5 million a year, officials said. If approved, it would take effect next April.
Half of the tax revenue would be distributed to county and city schools on a per-pupil basis for renovations to older schools and the purchase of technology. The other half would be used to provide funds for entrepreneurs, small business loans, innovation centers for new businesses and support for agriculture businesses.
Tax revenue also would be used to improve county infrastructure needed for a growing business environment, such as utilities, water and sewer.
