WRAL.com archive: State probation probe
The shooting deaths of UNC-Chapel Hill senior Eve Carson and Duke University graduate student Abhijit Mahato have prompted discussion of and scrutiny into the state's probation system, because two of the suspects in those homicide cases were overlooked while they were on probation. Both were out of jail on probation when the crimes occurred.
Other alleged offenders, were also on probation at the time of the crimes with which they were charged.
