CAREER: Admitted to the bar in 1978; joined Durham District Attorney's office in October 1978 as assistant district attorney; appointed district attorney in 2005; won the Democratic primary in May; in November, defeated an unaffiliated candidate who did not actively campaign and a write-in candidate. Resigned as district attorney July 2, 2007 after being disbarred by the North Carolina State Bar.
FAMILY: Wife Cy Gurney; daughter Sarah; son Bryan.
