Poll ranks Raleigh as one of the top places to live

Posted August 2, 2011

— Raleigh is one of the top places to live this year, according to a list released Tuesday by RelocateAmerica.

The relocation service ranks Raleigh as the No. 4 place to live, behind Austin, Texas, Grand Rapids, Mich., and Boulder, Colo.

Top cities were selected based on real estate and housing, local economics, recreation and safety. In addition, feedback from local residents, business and community leaders was also taken into consideration.

“We received thousands of submissions and connect with leaders of all the Top 100 communities that were vying for Top 10 distinctions,” Steve Nickerson, RelocateAmerica president and chief executive, said in a statement. “Raleigh demonstrated the enthusiasm and attributes that make a community great.”

Raleigh placed sixth in RelocateAmerica’s 2009 listing.

The top 10 communities to live in 2011 according to RelocateAmerica:

  1. Austin, Texas
  2. Grand Rapids, Mich.
  3. Boulder, Colo.
  4. Raleigh
  5. Dallas
  6. Greenville, S.C.
  7. Augusta, Ga.
  8. Boise, Idaho
  9. Omaha, Neb.
  10. Oklahoma City, Okla.

I grew up here but can't wait to leave. Too many people, too much traffic, taxed to death!

I'll tell you one thing. Raleigh is great. Now live in Florida which is one pitiful state. I can not wait to get out. The drivers are the worse I've ever experienced. Home owners insurance is triple what it is in Raleigh for the same value home and car insurance is double. The crime rates all over in Florida are staggering. Folks you all are so lucky to live in such a fine place. Don't come to Florida. It really sucks.
't wait to come on back to North Carolina !

Really? What poll did this come from?

  • frenzeegrrl Aug 3, 2011

Having lived and come from Austin, I can see how it placed number 1. However, I personally do think that Raleigh should be second. It is a great city!

This poll is not to be taken seriously. Grand Rapids?? Really?? It's just a smaller Detroit.
