I second Michellelynncasey's comments. Saving as many lives as possible is one of the many goals of the SPCA of Wake County, and I am proud to support them. The quality of care that the animals at the shelter get is unmatched (along with all of the medical care that they receive that was listed in the Michelle's comments), which is why adoption fees are necessary. The more people who adopt and not buy and who spay/neuter their pets, the less animals that will have to be euthanized each year.

@dko - The SPCA had this rate every day then they'd be out of money and shut down within a few months. All the pets they adopt out are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped (not to mention the cost of housing and feeding each one)- this is hundreds of dollars worth of vet services. The normal adoption rate is a huge bargain, and if people can't afford the normal adoption fee then they can't afford to take care of a pet.

If they can do this on a holiday they should do it every day .A lot of animals would be spared!!

Thats such a great way to give to the community and help animals at the sametime with affordability, some other states could learn from your example.
