Wake County honors fallen law enforcement officers

In Raleigh Tuesday, family, friends and colleagues gathered for the annual memorial to fallen law enforcement officers.

RALEIGH, N.C. — In Raleigh Tuesday, family, friends and colleagues gathered outside the Progress Energy Center for the annual memorial to fallen law enforcement officers.

The ceremony honors the 19 people who gave their lives in Wake County in service to the Raleigh, Morrisville, and Wake Forest police departments, the Wake County Sheriff's Office and the State Highway Patrol.

They are:

  • Detective Tom G. Crabtree, Raleigh Police Department (end of watch Sept. 1, 1922)
  • Deputy Sheriff Guy Cecil. Massey Sr., Wake County Sheriff's Office (Sept, 10, 1933)
  • Constable John L. Taylor, Wake Forest Police Department, (May 30, 1944)
  • Chief of Police George C. Mitchell, Wake Forest Police Department (April 26, 1947)
  • Officer Robert E. Sparks, Raleigh Police Department (March 8, 1968)
  • Officer James G. Lee, Raleigh Police Department (Dec. 5, 1968)
  • Officer James W. Allen, Raleigh Police Department (Dec. 5, 1968)
  • Patrolman Robert Randall East, North Carolina Highway Patrol (Dec. 21, 1972)
  • Officer Delma D. Adams, Raleigh Police Department (Feb. 3, 1980)
  • Officer Cecil E. Enloe, Wake Forest Police Department (Feb. 26, 1984)
  • Cadet W. E. Bayless III, North Carolina Highway Patrol (Feb. 5, 1988)
  • Officer Denise Holden, Raleigh Police Department (Aug. 4, 1995)
  • William E. Godwin, Morrisville Police Department (May 22, 1997)
  • Detective Paul A. Hale, Raleigh Police Department (July 11, 1997)
  • Officer Charles R. Paul III, Raleigh Police Department (Sep. 10, 2002)
  • Deputy Sheriff William Franklin James II, Wake County Sheriff's Office (Sep. 5, 2003)
