— Following Saturday's tornado, a north Raleigh shelter is offering free assistance to Wake County cat owners.

SAFE Haven for Cats, a no-kill shelter at 8431-137 Garvey Drive, is offering temporary shelter for cats or kittens, cat food, kitty litter and supplies such as carriers, kitty litter boxes, food bowls and bedding.

The group is also offering residents the use of humane traps in case their cats are on the loose and assistance with transportation of cats to the shelter, if needed.

YAY for Safe Haven For Cats! They do wonderful work (no I do not work for them, but have donated to them before for benefit events). They are a caring group of people, for sure!

As a pet owner, I find this generous offer of assistance heartwarming - too often, pets are overlooked in times of tragedy. I am thankful that my partner and I, and our 4 cats, came through the storms intact, and my prayers go out to those not so fortunate. If you are a cat owner affected by Saturday's storms, do yourself a favor and get at least one worry out of the way - SAFE Haven will take the very best of care of your furry loved ones.
