Education fund extends store owner's legacy
The family of a convenience store owner shot as he locked up his store has established a fund in his name to help his daughters achieve the education they say he valued so much.
Posted — UpdatedJeanine Soufan, 19, said her father, Rafiq Salim Soufan, known as "Sammy," emphasized education to her and her sisters, ages 8, 13 and 18. She is a graduate of Rocky Mount Academy and her three sisters are still students there.
The fund, at RBC Bank, will help her sisters complete their education, she said.

Sammy Soufan, 47, was found lying in the doorway of the store, at 1100 Old Wilson Road, after midnight on March 8, police said.
Authorities are looking for two or three people who are possibly driving a four-door, older model, gray Toyota Camry or black or gray Chevrolet Caprice with three hubcaps and one black steel rim.
Capt. Laura Fahnestock of the Rocky Mount Police Department said they have not ruled out robbery as a possible motive.
